The 9th Xposure International Photography Festival kicked off today in Sharjah, UAE, under the theme “There’s nothing bigger than a picture.” This prestigious event celebrates the art of visual storytelling and has become the largest photography trade and imaging show in the Middle East. The festival, which runs for one week, is hosting 420 visual artists and storytellers from around the globe, showcasing more than 2,500 images across 100 exhibitions.
Taking place in a newly purpose-built venue in Aljada, Sharjah, the festival occupies a vast 527,400 square-foot space, spread across nine pavilions. The event features a wide range of activities, including 50 specialized workshops, keynote speeches, and over 58 film screenings, as well as a technology showcase. Photography giants like Nikon and Fujifilm are prominently featured, displaying their latest equipment alongside galleries of images by brand ambassadors.
One of the highlights of the event is the Xposure Awards 2025, which will honor talent across 17 categories, with special accolades for photojournalists and filmmakers. The festival’s film program also includes a summit focused on conservation, in addition to a showcase of technology innovations.
The opening ceremony was graced by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, alongside distinguished speakers such as film producer Glenn Gainor and photographer Sebastian Copeland. This year’s festival has an impressive roster of renowned photographers, including Don McCullin, Gerd Ludwig, and James Nachtwey, with exhibitions featuring both famous works and unseen pieces.
