Mar del Plata Embraces Literature: 21st Book Fair Opens at Paseo Aldrey
The 21st Feria del Libro “Mar del Plata Puerto de Lectura” has officially been inaugurated at the Espacio Cultural del Paseo Aldrey, marking a significant event in the city’s cultural calendar. Running until November 1, the fair is free to visit from 14:00 to 20:00 daily, offering a diverse array of activities for literature enthusiasts of all ages.
This year’s fair promises a rich program, including the presentation of new titles, workshops, and classes across various arts. The opening day was highlighted by the participation of author Alexandra Kohan, who introduced her book “El libro del dinero. Entre el don y la materialidad,” with Vanesa Baur moderating the session.
The fair features over 30 stands, showcasing a wide range of literary offerings for all interests. The stand opening was symbolically transformed into the untying of a knot, facilitated by Diego Juarez of the Ente Municipal de Turismo y Cultura (Emturyc), Mónica Biasone, the rector of the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata (Unmdp), and Javier Fernández from the Cámara de Libreros del Sudeste.
Juarez spoke to the significance of the event, stating, “La Feria del Libro is something iconic in our city, and doing it here adds another layer of iconicity.” In support, Fernández celebrated the numerous stands and emphasized the cultural importance, urging the community to engage with the fair.
Also present was Aldo Bacchiani, representing entrepreneur Florencio Aldrey, who endorses the event. The collaborative spirit between public institutions, publishers, and the local government is at the heart of this cultural celebration, with Mónica Biasone acknowledging these efforts and inviting Mar del Plata residents to partake in the literary offerings.
Biasone further highlighted the 20-year anniversary of the Editorial Universitaria (Eudem), noting plans for the next year to reproduce the publication “Enlace Universitario” in print to reach more libraries and community centers. As part of this milestone, Gabriela Azcoitia presented a recognition from the Concejo Deliberante.
Throughout the fair, prominent authors such as Hugo Alconada Mon, Reynaldo Sietecase, Federico Jeanmaire, and several others will appear alongside local writers and publishers. The event, organized by the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata and the Cámara de Libreros del Sudeste, is supported by the Municipality of General Pueyrredon through Emturyc and the Unmdp Foundation.
Here’s a glimpse of Saturday’s schedule: The day’s activities kick off at 14:00 in the Sala Victoria with Rafael Arce presenting “Nunca fuimos humanos.” Concurrently, Esmeralda Longhi chairs the anthology presentation, “Viajes en versos.”
Throughout the day, attendees will have opportunities to engage with authors during live classes, radio broadcasts, and panel discussions. The fair offers an eclectic mix of creative experiences, from book publishing tutorials by Lucía Gorricho to robotics narratives by Patricia Zelaya.
Attendees can also enjoy artistic interactions thanks to visual artist Nicolás D’Ovidio, who will work live in the fair space to engage with visitors creatively.
The Mar del Plata Book Fair is not just a cultural event but a symbol of the city’s vibrant literary scene, inviting all to explore, discover, and celebrate the written word.
